Its a main reason why it was removed shortly after d axes were released iirc. Losing a rune axe was terrible. Losing a d axe was big oof. The ent and smoking ore broke your tool tho, where bob repaired it. Your tool head falling off was a random event but there was no npc or anything. And u fixed that yourself.

It is pretty easy with gold income that outclasses mining rune ore, is never crowded and if you are alert then its very minimal risk, though the experience is awful.
